California scrub-jay

Aphelocoma californica · Bird · Common in San Diego County

Default for birds: logged quietly
Sample: changes are not saved

Caught in the act, a California scrub-jay plays it safe: if another jay watches it hide food, it may come back later and move it. This bold, crestless jay of blue and gray, with an incomplete blue collar framing its white throat, spends fall burying acorns one by one and remembers many of its hiding spots.
