Terms of Service
These terms govern your use of Wildex, a service that identifies animals in video recorded by Ring cameras you choose to connect and keeps a record of the species seen. Please read them; they are short.
1. Agreement and acceptance
By connecting a camera, signing in, or subscribing, you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy. If you do not agree, do not use the service. You must be at least 18 and the owner or authorised user of the Ring account and cameras you connect.
2. Description of the service
Wildex receives motion events from the Ring cameras you select, fetches a frame (or, when the frame is empty, a short clip) from the recording, finds any animals in it, and names the species. Sightings build a per-species record with first seen, last seen and visit counts, charts by time of day, email alerts for the species you choose, and a monthly summary. Every identification is an estimate with a stated confidence, and you can confirm or correct it. Identifications are provided for interest and awareness only; they are not expert determinations and must not be relied on for safety decisions, pest control, wildlife management, or any legal purpose.
3. Your responsibilities
- Connect only cameras you own or are authorised to use, and comply with the laws on recording that apply where the camera is.
- Keep your sign-in email secure. Anyone who can read it can sign in as you.
- Provide accurate information, and tell us promptly at support@wildexapp.com if you believe your account has been misused.
- Understand that the service depends on your camera’s placement, lighting and recording settings, and will miss some animals and misidentify others, especially at night and at distance.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to use Wildex to:
- identify, track, harass or intimidate any person, or attempt to learn who was in a recording;
- recognise faces, read licence plates, or combine our data with other sources to identify people;
- locate, pursue, trap, hunt or harm wildlife, or share sighting locations in ways that endanger animals or violate the law;
- record areas you are not entitled to record, or share results in ways that violate someone’s privacy or the law;
- interfere with the service, probe or overload its systems, or access other customers’ data;
- resell, scrape or redistribute the service or its output without our written permission.
We may suspend or end accounts used in these ways.
5. Data practices
What we collect, how we use it, how long we keep it, who processes it for us, and how you delete it are set out in full in the privacy policy, which forms part of these terms. In short: we fetch one frame per motion event and a clip only when the frame is empty; people in frame are discarded before anything is stored; frames and clips are deleted within about a minute; animal crops are kept 90 days; the models run on our own servers and no footage goes to a third-party AI; we do not recognise faces, sell data, share it between households, or train AI models on it; you can delete everything from your settings at any time.
6. Intellectual property
The Wildex software, website, design, name and logo are ours. We grant you a personal, non-transferable licence to use the service while you have an account. Your recordings remain yours, and the sightings, crops and records we derive from them are provided to you for your own use. “Ring” and “Amazon” are trademarks of their owners; Wildex is an independent product and not affiliated with either.
7. Third-party services
Wildex depends on Ring’s services and your Ring subscription for recordings, and on the providers named in the privacy policy for hosting, storage and email. Your use of Ring is governed by Ring’s own terms. We are not responsible for outages, changes or limits in those services, and features may be unavailable when they are.
8. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
The service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. Species identifications are estimates and may be wrong; missed animals and incorrect names will occur. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for loss of data, arising from your use of the service, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, in which case they apply to the extent permitted.
9. Subscriptions, termination and deletion
Wildex is free during the beta. If a subscription is introduced it will be billed through Ring, announced in advance, and cancellable at any time in the Ring app under My Apps, with access continuing to the end of the paid period. You may delete your account and all of your data at any time from your settings, or by emailing support; removing Wildex in the Ring app also stops all processing, and your data is erased automatically 30 days later. We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach these terms, and may discontinue the service with at least 30 days’ notice, in which case we delete your data.
10. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. For material changes we will email you at least 14 days before they take effect and note the change on this page. Continuing to use the service after that date means you accept the new terms; if you do not, cancel and delete your account before then.
