Anna's hummingbird
Calypte anna · Bird · Common in San Diego County
Default for birds: logged quietly

Frosty winters don’t chase off Anna’s hummingbirds, which stay year-round along the West Coast and in parts of the Southwest, often squabbling over feeders. In sunlight a male’s head and throat blaze rose-pink. His courtship stunt is a steep climb and a headlong dive that ends in a sharp chirp from his tail feathers.
