Black phoebe
Sayornis nigricans · Bird · Common in San Diego County
Default for birds: logged quietly
Sample: changes are not saved
A black phoebe is almost never far from water, though it isn’t fussy about the source: a backyard pool works as well as a creek or pond. This tidy black flycatcher with a white belly builds its nest from mud, stuck under eaves and bridges, and now and then it varies its insect diet with a tiny fish taken near the surface.
