Wild turkey
Meleagris gallopavo · Bird · Uncommon in San Diego County
Default for birds: logged quietly
Sample: changes are not saved
Big, bronzy and bold, wild turkeys now roam suburbs and woodlots across most of the US after a remarkable comeback from scarcity. By day a flock usually scratches about for acorns, seeds and insects, and at night the birds flap up into trees to sleep. Spring is showtime, when gobbling males strut with their tails spread wide.
